The Istimara is your car's registration, and it can only be renewed once the car has passed Fahes, Qatar's periodic vehicle test, the insurance is valid and any fines are paid. Our Istimara renewal Qatar assistance takes the car side off your hands: a free pre-Fahes check, repairs you approve, and we drive the car to Fahes for you. You then finish the renewal on Metrash in a few minutes.
Last updated: 31 October 2026The Istimara is the registration card the Ministry of Interior issues for every car on the road, and private cars renew it every year. To renew it, the Ministry of Interior requires:
Once the car is more than 3 years old.
Insurance that covers the new registration year.
Fines on the car have to be cleared first.
Most Istimara Qatar renewals happen on the Metrash app, under Traffic Services, then Vehicle Services, then Renew Vehicle Registration. The Traffic Department counters inside Fahes stations also handle registration renewal. The new card can be delivered by Q-Post for an extra fee, or collected in person.
The step that takes the most time is usually Fahes itself, especially when the car fails.
Driving on an expired Istimara brings a penalty from the Traffic Department, and a car left unregistered past the legal period can be removed from the registry. Renew before the date on the card, not after.
Book the free check early when the car Istimara Qatar issued last year is due within a few weeks. If the car needs parts, there is still time to fix it and pass.
If the Istimara has already expired, book the check straight away.
Istimara renewal can be done three ways, and the right one depends on the car's condition and your time.
Doing it yourself costs least but risks a second trip if the car fails. You don't need us at all if the car is under the Fahes age limit: with valid insurance and no fines, renewal is a few minutes on Metrash.
We check brakes, tyres, lights, glass, suspension, exhaust smoke and bodywork, the main points Fahes looks at. The check takes 30 to 60 minutes and costs nothing.
Anything that would fail is priced before any work starts, and nothing is fixed without your approval. For bigger repairs the written quotation is free. Small fixes such as bulbs, wiper blades and brake pads are usually done the same day. We also supply and fit tyres and remove window tint.
Our workshop is 2 to 3 minutes from the Fahes station, and we drive the car there for you with no authorisation letter. If the car fails, we fix the faults on the result sheet and take it back for the re-test within the 30-day window Fahes allows.
Once the pass is recorded and the insurance is valid, you renew on Metrash yourself. We don't renew at the traffic counter or arrange insurance, but we'll show you the steps.
Collect the car from the workshop, or have us pick it up from your home and bring it back.
Repairs carry a workmanship warranty. Consumables such as bulbs and wiper blades carry none, and you can have the old parts back.
Our Istimara renewal Qatar assistance starts from QAR 150. That covers the pre-Fahes check, driving the car to Fahes and help with the renewal on Metrash. You pay these separately, straight to whoever charges them:

☎Istimara renewal online is done on the Metrash app, under Traffic, Vehicles, then Renew Vehicle Registration. Choose delivery or collection for the new card and pay the fee in the app. The renewal goes through only once the Fahes pass, valid insurance and cleared fines are on the system.
A private car under 3 years old renews without an inspection. Above that age, the renewal waits for a recorded pass, so book Fahes first.
The cost of an Istimara renewal is the MOI fee for your vehicle type plus the Fahes fee if the car needs an inspection. Insurance and repairs come on top, and our assistance adds QAR 150.
Unpaid traffic fines on the car have to be paid before the Istimara can be renewed. You can see and pay them in Metrash first.
Auto Squad Garage takes your car to Fahes for you, with no authorisation letter needed. Drop the car at the workshop or have us collect it from home.
Istimara help at our workshop starts with a 30 to 60 minute pre-Fahes check, and the Fahes station is 2 to 3 minutes away. The total time to a pass depends on repairs and the Fahes queue. The Metrash renewal takes a few minutes after that.
The vehicle Istimara Qatar issues shows its expiry date on the front of the card, and Metrash shows it under your vehicles. Set a reminder a month ahead.
We handle Japanese, German, American, European and Chinese cars, such as MG, Geely and Chery. We do not work on hybrid or electric cars.

We confirm the price first. Driving the car to Fahes for you is part of the assistance from QAR 150.
